We aim to bring the World Championships back to Oberstdorf – a top-level event full of thrilling emotions, sustainable venues and authentic traditions.
Our vision is to create a true winter fairy tale – for athletes, teams, fans and the local community alike. World Championships that leave a lasting impression: in memories, in top sporting achievements and in the strong sense of community that defines the region.
Oberstdorf unites the entire world of nordic skiing at the highest level: cross-country skiing, nordic combined, and ski jumping. The region lives and breathes winter sports: dedicated sports clubs, passionate volunteers and enthusiasm across generations create a unique community spirit. Sports, culture and a vivid atmosphere merge into a magical “winter fairy tale” in the heart oft he Allgäu.

With stadiums accomodating over 45,000 spectators, the stage is set for thrilling competitions and passionate fans. Short distances between the ski jumping arena, the Nordic Center Oberstdorf/Allgäu and the Medal Plaza ensure a compact, vibrant event experience – all within walking distance, all at the heart of Oberstdorf. Live shows, performances and celebrations turn the World Championships into a festival for everyone.

The 2031 World Championships will set the benchmark for responsible large-scale events. No new construction is required: all venues were modernized in 2021 and have been sustainably operated ever since. Only minor renovations are needed to ensure the facilities meet the latest technical standards. Energy from 100% regional sources, smart mobility and energy concepts, short distances and a comprehensive sustainability plan in accordance with ISO standards make Oberstdorf 2031 one of the greenest World Championships in history.

The World Championships strengthen youth, sports clubs, volunteer networks and the entire region. Oberstdorf will continue to serve as a world-class training hub, tourism magnet and symbol of sustainable large-scale events. The FIS Nordic Ski World Championships create lasting benefits for young athletes, tourism, sports development and regional identity – long after the final medal is awarded. Fans experience not only sports at its highest level but also the rich culture of Oberstdorf.

In addition to two successful World Championships in 1987 and 2005, which attracted thousands of enthusiastic spectators, Oberstdorf proved in 2021—under pandemic conditions—that it can reliably, professionally and responsibly host such a traditional large-scale event even under the most challenging circumstances. The wealth of experience forms the foundation for 2031. Top events such as the Four Hills Tournament, Two-Nights-Tour, FIS Ski Flying World Championships, the Tour de Ski, and Nordic Combined World Cups showcase the exceptional professionalism, decades of experience and the immense commitment of the organizing team and volunteers in Oberstdorf.
